When you create a company page, people who work for your company as either employees or contractors can add their name to it. This is great for making more connections, but there is also potential for mistakes and even fraud. Unfortunately, the way LinkedIn works is that you cannot manually remove people from your company page. This is why it is important to continually check up on who is on your company page so that you won’t have to work too hard to remove them.
If you read this title and then immediately went to your business page and found people who have added themselves to your company without really having a connection, don’t get upset or panic. There are many businesses with similar names and even sometimes the same name, when they are not incorporated. But, there is no reason to get upset. Mistakes happen and this can be fixed.
Send Them a Message
The easiest and most preferred method of removing someone from your company page who doesn’t belong there is to send them a message and ask them to update their profile. You can do this with former employees and people whom you do not know who have added themselves as employees. Just explain to them that you don’t know who they are, or that since they no longer work for you, you’d appreciate them changing their page information. Keep in mind that you cannot send them an InMail unless you’re a premium member or they are one of your connections.
Send a Message to LinkedIn
If you would rather have LinkedIn look into the issue, send them a message by going to the help center. Currently the link for the help center is at the bottom left of the page. The tile of it is “Help Center”. First, copy down the information of the person that you can gather from their profile. You need the URL for their profile, their full name and a reason why you don’t want them on your page. If you have several people who are on your company page that do not belong, you can send one request for all of them.
Update Your Business Page Often
To keep your business page active check it daily, add discussions, announce sales and more. Add as much information to your business page as possible such as examples of your work, or updates that highlight various employees or contractors. Keeping a more active page will discourage people who are scammers from using your business for connections.
It can be confusing to find out that people you do not know and have never worked with are listing your company page as a place they have done business. But now you can deal with it if you keep up to date with your business page to help control those who aren’t really supposed to be part of your page.
